Rigveda Deshpandey of Pune founded this ‘Indian Whistlers Association – IWA’ two years back. He had 4 people with him.  Jagat Tarkas one of the performers from Chennai being a whistler traced this association through the internet and convinced them to perform on stage.  The first ever whistling show of India was organized in Chennai on the 18th of June, 2006, It was welcomed and appreciated by the public. As a result the number of members grew and today there are 90 whistlers from India who belong to this association.  In Chennai alone there are 30 whistlers.  The members meet one Sunday every month and they have also come up with a souvenir on whistling, ‘Whistlearth’, the first of its kind in the world and has useful articles on whistling.

The association dreams of taking all the Indian melody, light music, classical carnatic and hindustani music to other parts of the world through whistling and also invite whistlers from other parts of the world to our country.
